We accept referrals for orthodontic consultation and treatment from other dentists. Please ask your dentist if you or your children need to be referred for a consultation.

Majority of our orthodontic patients are via NHS referral system, but self referral are also welcome too!

Missed Appointments

If you are unable to keep your appointment please give us at least 24 hours notice so that we can give the appointment to someone else.

Emergency Care

Should you have a dental emergency outside the normal practice hours, please telephone 01277 230122 which will put you in contact with the dentist on call. You may not see your usual dentist but we will aim to deal with the immediate problem. During practice hours, we endeavour to see any patient who has a dental emergency.

Implants

Implants are the ideal solution for replacing missing teeth or teeth needing extraction. The procedure involves a titanium root to be placed within the bones and allowed to integrate naturally for around 4-6 months. The crowns are then fixed to this artificial root. During the healing phase, a temporary denture is used to restore your smile.

Implants can be regarded as a kind of small surgery operations, usually they are performed under local anesthetic ( just to numb the jaws). However in some cases (eg missing bones), a general anesthetic is needed to restore them using a soft bone.

The success rate for implants is extremely good ( can be as high as 95%! ). Very few people experience anything other than mild discomfort right after the operation.

Dentures

Dentures can be made as full (whole arch or whole mouth) or partial (replacing one or several teeth). All dentures are removable and have a tendency to move. To achieve stability, partial dentures need to be clasped to the natural teeth. But this can be unsightly. Precision attachments can allow the denture to be attached without showing the clasps.

Both partial and full dentures can be made to appear quite natural using the latest artificial teeth and acrylic. However, they are never an ideal substitute for natural tooth support or implants.

Bridges

Bridges are restorations designed to replace missing teeth. It involves reducing the size of the adjacent teeth which act as supporters. However there is a limit to the length which a tooth can be bridged in addition, it requires a tooth to be present at each end for support if one’s aim is for a long term success.

Crowns (‘Caps’)

Crowns are used to support the tooth when it is heavily filled (or root filled) or when the bite is heavy.

Procera crowns and Inceram crowns contain no metal in their composition. Their strength comes from a sophisticated core of dense porcelain. These eliminate the dark line often seen at the gum margin.
